Documents Required for Used Truck Financing: The Complete Checklist

Financing used trucks or second hand commercial vehicles typically requires a valid driving licence, address proof, PAN card, recent bank statements, and, depending on the financier, either formal income proof or practical evidence of transport business activity. Vehicle-specific documents such as the RC, insurance, and inspection report are handled separately once a vehicle is selected. Having all of this ready before you apply is the single biggest thing you can do to avoid delays.

The Core Documents

  • Valid driving licence
  • Address proof, Aadhaar card, utility bill, or another accepted document
  • PAN card
  • Recent bank statements, typically covering the last few months
  • Passport-size photographs

If You're Self-Employed or Own a Transport Business

Many buyers in this category don't have a formal salary slip, and that isn't automatically a blocker. Financiers working with self-employed drivers and small transport operators may accept practical evidence of business activity instead:

  • Existing transport permits
  • Work history or route contracts, where available
  • Bank statements showing regular business-related transactions

If a financier rejects you for lacking a formal income certificate, it's worth checking with a different financier before assuming financing isn't possible, eligibility criteria genuinely vary.

Vehicle-Specific Documents

Once you've selected a vehicle, these documents come into play:

  • Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle
  • Valid insurance
  • Vehicle inspection or valuation report, if required by the financier
  • Sale agreement between buyer and seller

What to Prepare Even If It Isn't Always Mandatory

  • A co-applicant or guarantor if your credit profile is thin, which can improve approval odds
  • Proof of down-payment funds, since some financiers request it before disbursal
  • Existing loan-closure documents if the selected vehicle previously had a loan

How to Avoid Delays

One of the most common causes of financing delays is an incomplete document set that triggers several rounds of follow-up. Gather everything on this list before you apply, including the items that might not be mandatory for your case, so you can respond quickly to the financier's exact requirements.
